Happy Mothers Day to all of you wonderful mothers out there!
Today I was able to create a layout for an awesome challenge over on the Unity Stamp Company blog. They are giving away $200 in product to one lucky winner! You have to create a 8x8 recipe layout. I have never created a recipe layout but I thought this would be a good time to start. Teehee!!!!! I think a recipe album of my kids favorite dishes would be nice to have on hand.
So the page that is going to start my recipe album is one for a yummy lasagna dish that I received the week after I had brought my first baby home from the hospital. Our church has a group of ladies that bring meals to new mommies. I had never had lasagna before then (I know....crazy right?) but it was so delicious. She had brought me the prepared meal ready to be thrown into the oven. The recipe is now a favorite in our home! I can't find the original recipe card right now but I never use it anymore....I just throw it together as I go. :)
Here is my layout:
I used a sketch from practical scrappers for this challenge. I really like how it turned out. I have been wanting to stitch on my projects for awhile but just didn't want to get out the sewing machine and she and I have not gotten along well the last few times I pulled her out. We had our challenges last night when I decided to pull her out but after some playing around with her and my husbands help (he was very helpful when he saw how frustrated I was getting and was surprisingly very handy at helping me figure it out! Thanks hon!!!!) I think the sewing machine and I are learning to like each other and I am excited to try some of the fun stitches she has to offer in the near future....I think you will be seeing more of her!!!!
I used a portion of the "Be the Change" sentiment stamp by Unity Stamp Co. The spiral circles that you see scattered around the page are from that stamp. I just simply colored that portion I wanted with a marker and stamped it. Easy peasy and a great way to give versatility to your stamps!
I love the Perles brad by making memories that I used on this layout! It just adds a little bling to my layout :)
I added the title with some Tiny Type letter stickers by Cosmo Cricket!
In the top right and bottom left corners of my layout I used the Quiet Essence kit from Unity Stamp Co. I first inked the stamp with versamark. Then I inked it with distress ink (Barn Door Red) and then stamped it on my paper. I then sprinkled on some embossing powder and set it. I love this! No need to have lots of different colors of embossing powders!!!!
Here is the recipe. It is hidden behind the photo. I used a flip flap (by creative memories Close to My Heart). I think it works perfectly. The flip flap attaches to the outside of your page protector. This way you can add more photos/layers to your layout. The front of my flip flap is the photo of my recipe and the back is some details about how I came upon it.
Thanks for stopping by and good luck to all those who enter this AWESOME challenge! Unity rocks!!!!!
(If you think Unity rocks and want to check out the Kit of the Month club - leave a comment when you order and tell them I sent ya! I guess Unity gives back to those who spread the word! How awesome is that? AND you don't want to miss the May KOTM! It will be my first kit and I can't wait to paly with it.....it is AMAZING!!!!!)
